Dos and Donts

Seven important DON’TS when choosing a carpet cleaner

1. Don’t choose a carpet cleaner who doesn’t use a truck mounted hot water extraction system. No other method is as effective at cleaning your carpets and eradicating dust mites as a truck mounted system. While portable machines use the same process, they are just not powerful enough to provide the heat, water pressure and suction needed to really deep clean your carpets and enable them to dry quickly afterwards.

2. Don’t choose a carpet cleaner just because of the equipment they have. The question you have to ask yourself is: do they know how to use it? Having a truck mounted system is one thing, being properly qualified to operate it is quite another. To be sure you need to check whether both the company and the technician doing the job have been certified by the NCCA (National Carpet Cleaners Association).

3. Don’t choose a carpet cleaner just because they’re cheaper. As usual in life, you often get what you pay for. A low price may mean cheap equipment which won’t do the job properly. Or they may just be quoting you for Single Process cleaning when Dual Process is what you’ll want when you discover the difference. Finally, you need to beware of companies that hook you on a low telephone quote, then increase it dramatically once they’re in the door.

4. Don’t choose a carpet cleaner after just one call. Make sure they visit your home in person and give you a written quote so that you understand exactly what you’re getting and how much it will cost.

5. Don’t choose a carpet cleaner who won’t give you your money back. If they’re not prepared to FULLY guarantee their work you could be in for a big (and expensive) disappointment. Make sure a money-back guarantee is included in your written quotation.

6. Don’t take a carpet cleaner’s word for it. Ask for references from a couple of recent customers and see what they have to say about the service they received.

7. Don’t choose a carpet cleaner who isn’t properly qualified. If you want a professional job done, hire a professional. If they are certified by the NCCA they are much more likely to do a good job.
